Introduction

Rates of racial intermarriage have increased in the United States, especially since legal barriers were removed in 1967. Using census data, Stevens and Tyler (1998) estimate that the percentage of all marriages were interracial (not including Hispanics as a seperate category) increased from .4 percent in 1960 to 2.9 percent in 1990.
