The Police Public Contact Survey (PPCS) is a supplement to the National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) and is sponsored by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). The PPCS collects information from respondents on contacts they had with the police over a 12-month period. New questions were added to the supplement to measure respondents' attitudes on the respectfulness and professionalism of police officer(s) during these contacts. Questions were also revised to more accurately measure instances of racial profiling, other arrests, and threat or use of force. These questions will be added to the supplement for the 2005 survey. The Center for Survey Methods Research (CSMR) was asked to pretest the supplement.
