Report on the New "Type-2" People Questions: A Pretesting Study for the Re-Engineered SIPP

Written by:
RSM2007-41

Executive Summary

The purpose of this research is to evaluate a set of new questions proposed for use in the re-engineered Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP). An "original sample person" (OSP) is anyone residing at a sample address at the time of the SIPP interview. The new questions attempt to capture very basic information about "Type-2" people - people who do not live at sampled addresses at the time of the SIPP interviewed, but who lived with an OSP for at least one month of the re-engineered SIPP reference period (currently, the previous calendar year).
