This report is an overview of key findings from the 2020 Census Tracking Survey (Team Y&R 2020a), a survey designed as part of the overall 2020 Census Integrated Communications Campaign (ICC) to provide “insight into the campaign by identifying emerging issues and trends, helping to understand results from other data inputs, and informing recommendations for campaign refinements” (Team Y&R 2020b, 191).
In many ways, the findings presented here are a public-facing elaboration of the summary of results presented in the Integrated Communications Contract Final Report—an internal report prepared by Team Y&R for the Census Bureau (Team Y&R 2020b). In the current report, however, we used custom weights that were developed by Census Bureau employees that are distinct from the weights that were initially delivered with the dataset. There are also some differences in terms of the specific trends we report on here. In this report, we focus on:
1. Questions that were asked consistently throughout the entire campaign.
2. Two special topic modules about attitudes and beliefs related to enumerating young children, and perceptions of enumerators wearing masks when conducting the census.
