The 2020 PPMF includes two protected microdata files — a person file and a housing unit or household file. The PPMF allows data users to generate custom tabulations for subjects or geographies not included in the published tables.
2020 Census Privacy-Protected Microdata File (PPMF) – The PPMF data are contained in a single zip file. Given the large file sizes, the Census Bureau recommends using a statistical programming language to open these files and to perform analysis.
More information about the PPMF and how it differs from the 2010 Census Public Use Microdata Sample is available on the 2020 Census Privacy-Protected Microdata File (PPMF) page.
