JULY 24, 2025 — The U.S. Census Bureau today released data from the 2024 Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) detailing the income and assistance program participation of individuals and households in the United States. The SIPP is a longitudinal survey, one that collects data from the same individuals over an extended period of time and measures changes in characteristics like economic well-being, family dynamics, education, assets, health insurance, child care, and food security.

This release includes:

  • Data tables detailing receipt of Social Security; Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF); Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP); Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC); Supplemental Security Income (SSI); retirement income; unemployment insurance; free and reduced-price school meals; Veterans Administration (VA) benefits; and child support by different demographic characteristics.
  • Wealth and Asset Ownership Data tables providing national and state wealth and debt measures for a variety of demographic, social and household characteristics, including home equity, retirement account, vehicle debt, credit card debt, and student loans.
  • Wealth of Households: 2023, a brief that uses information from the 2024 SIPP to examine household wealth in 2023 such as differences in the rates of asset and debt holding and significant variation in median household wealth by demographic and economic characteristics like education and income.
  • Monthly and Episodic Poverty: 2023, a brief that examines monthly poverty rates, episodic poverty rates (the percentage of people in poverty for two or more consecutive months), and the duration spent in poverty by multiple demographic groups. This also highlights SIPP's unique poverty data.
