2021

Additional 2017-2021 American Community Survey (ACS) 5-Year Selected Population Tables (SPT) and American Indian and Alaska Native Tables (AIANT) were released on January 25, 2024 to address over-suppression for some groups and geographies within the original June 2023 release. For additional information about the over-suppressed groups and geographies, visit the Documentation section below.

Data

data.census.gov:

*To modify a table in data.census.gov to a specific race, Hispanic origin, or tribal population, select the "Topic" tool at the top of the table. Next, select "Race and Ethnicity." From here the table can be modified by specific race, Hispanic origin, or tribal population. Once a specifc race, Hispanic origin, or tribal population is selected, close the "Topic" tool to view the modified table. Follow similar steps to modify a table by ancestry. Select the "Topic" tool and then select "Populations and People." Next, select "Ancestry" and from here a specific ancestry can be selected. Once an ancestry is selected, close the "Topic" tool to view the modified table.

*To modify the geography of a table in data.census.gov, select the "Geos" tool at the top of the table. From here the table can be modified by Region, State, County, and more. Once a geography is selected close the "Geos" tool to view the modified table.

Population Groups and Geographies Available

Tables will be available based on the size of the group and the number of sample cases for a specific geographic area (i.e., state or town). Steps 1 and 2 below outline the criteria for publishing estimates for groups.

Step 1-Population Groups Available
For Selected Population Tables:

The race, Hispanic origin, ancestry, or tribal population group must have a population of at least 7,000 based on the 2017-2021 ACS 5-year estimates at the national-level.

  • There are 399 population groups included in the 2017-2021 ACS 5-year SPTs. View the "SPT Population Groups" tab in the documentation above for details.
  • For race, Hispanic origin, and tribal groups, the initial list of possible groups for this product is based on 2010 Census counts.
  • For ancestry groups, the initial list of possible groups for this product is based on 2011-2015 ACS 5-year estimates.
For American Indian and Alaska Native Tables:

The American Indian or Alaska Native group must have a population of at least 100 based on the 2017-2021 ACS 5-year estimates at the national-level.

  • There are 1,059 population groups included in the 2017-2021 ACS 5-year AIANTs. View the "AIANT Population Groups" tab in the documentation above for details.
  • The initial list of possible groups for this product is based on 2010 Census.
Step 2-Geographies Available

For the table to be released for a particular population group, the desired geographic area (i.e., the state of Florida) must have at least 50 unweighted sample persons from the population group, based on 2017-2021 ACS 5-year estimates. This requirement protects individual and household responses. View the "SPT Geographies" and "AIANT Geographies" tabs in the documentation above for more details.

Comparison Guidance

Definitions of American Indian and Alaska Native tribes change over time. Reference the "SPT Comparison Guide" and "AIANT Comparison Guide" tabs in the documentation above to determine whether data for these groups are comparable to statistics from previous datasets.
