Error in the 2010 ACS Summary File Geography File
In data year 2010, 2 new variables (BTTR and BTBG) were added to the geography file used with the ACS Summary File. Due to their inclusion, the field size for the variable BLANK in starting position 426 decreased. The table providing the layout of the geography file in Section 2.4 of the 2010 ACS 1-year, 2008-2010 ACS 3-year, and 2006-2010 ACS 5-year Summary File Technical Documentation lists the field size of the last variable, BLANK, as 50. The correct field size is 43
In addition, the table providing the layout of the geography file in the 2006-2010 ACS 5-year Summary File Technical Documentation mistakenly uses the layout from the 2008-2010 ACS 3-year Summary File Technical Documentation. A corrected table (see below) is now available. These errors will be corrected in the 2011 ACS Summary File Technical Documentation.
Error in the 2010 Summary File Technical Documentation for Table B07101
Table B07101 "Movers Between Regions in the United States" is published for the nation only. Appendix E of the 2008-2010 ACS 3-year and 2006-2010 ACS 5-year Summary File Technical Documentation lists this table as being available in both the US and PR sequences. The table should only be listed as a US sequence. This error will be corrected in the 2011 ACS Summary File Technical Documentation. In addition, the sequence file for Puerto Rico inadvertently includes empty cells for this table. Due to a reordering of the sequences, there are no "Puerto Rico Only Sequences" in the 2011 ACS Summary File.
Update to Section C.7 "Sequences Used Only for United States Tables or Only for Puerto Rico Tables" in the 2010 Summary File Technical Documentation
Section C.7 "Sequences Used Only for United States Tables or Only for Puerto Rico Tables" in the 2010 ACS 1-year, 2008-2010 ACS 3-year, and 2006-2010 ACS 5-year Summary File Technical Documentation states that "Puerto Rico only sequences" are blank for areas other than Puerto Rico. This statement is incorrect. When data users open up a "PR only sequence" for areas other than Puerto Rico (i.e., states), they will see values. These values correspond to the tables in the sequence that are not different between the US and PR. These tables are also provided in their corresponding US sequence. Due to a reordering of the sequences, there are no "Puerto Rico only sequences" in the 2011 ACS Summary File.
