After the release of the 2017 ACS data products, the Census Bureau identified an error in the data for New Castle County, DE, which impacted estimates in New Castle County and the state of Delaware. The error occurred during personal interview data collection. The following topics were affected: ancestry, commuting, disability, employment status, fertility, health insurance, income and earnings, industry and occupation, marital history and status, poverty, presence of grandchildren, and veteran status. The 2017 ACS 1-year estimates for these topics in the affected geographies should not be compared with other ACS estimates. The 2017 1-year estimates for these topics will be suppressed in future 1-year Comparison Profiles. Revised data for 2017 will be used to create the 2018 and later 5-year ACS data.
This error for Delaware had no notable impacts on the published 2017 ACS 1-year estimates at the national or regional level.
The same data collection error was identified in 2018 prior to release. Existing ACS data editing and imputation methodology was applied to address the error. As a result, data users will observe elevated allocation rates for these topics. The 2018 1-year estimates were suppressed for two topics, ancestry and marital history (divorced in the past year). The 2018 1-year estimates for these topics will be suppressed in future Comparison Profiles. These topics were also suppressed in the 2018 1-year PUMS data.
