Census Research Exploration and Analysis Tool (CREAT) Released

Today the U.S. Census Bureau released the Census Research Exploration and Analysis Tool (CREAT). CREAT is a new experimental data tool that uses natural language processing and artificial intelligence tools to analyze, categorize, and sort the economic research contained in the CES working paper series. CREAT allows users to explore links between authors, organizations/datasets, and keywords. The application also allows searching for any text phrase, and filtering by year. Instead of using author defined topics, which may vary across domain (or sub-domain), CREAT uses natural language processing techniques to extract and standardize common linkages across CES working papers. This automated extraction also identifies common entities mentioned in the text of the research, such as datasets, universities, and institutions.

CREAT can be accessed at: census.gov/data/data-tools/creat.html.
