The 2017 Census Test allowed the Census Bureau to research new methods and advanced technologies to improve data collection during the 2020 Census. The Census Bureau contacted 80,000 housing units throughout the nation to test new internet systems, including new tribal enrollment questions. The test included over-sampling of tribal areas. For this test, Census Day was April 1, 2017.
Whether through the internet, telephone or traditional paper questionnaires, the Census Bureau is committed to making the mandatory once-a-decade headcount quick, easy, and safe for all to participate. Your response was crucial for a more efficient, cost-effective, and easier 2020 Census.
Note: On October 18, 2016, the U.S. Census Bureau released the 2020 Census Memorandum 2016.21 documenting the 2020 Census Program’s decision to remove two field tests' operations for the 2017 Census Test.
