Soliciting Input or Suggestions on 2030 Census Preliminary Research: Final Report

Written by:

The Census Bureau’s 2030 Research Federal Register Notice (FRN) – Soliciting Input or Suggestions on 2030 Census Preliminary Research – was the first time the public had the opportunity to formally give input on early planning of the next decennial census through an FRN.

Through this FRN, the public was invited to share comments on how the Census Bureau can improve people’s experience responding to the 2030 Census. We were specifically interested in ideas that align with the following five categories: reaching and motivating everyone, technology, new data sources, how we contact respondents, and respondent support services.

This FRN yielded over 8,000 comments from the public. The feedback not only included the five categories of interest but also topics that expanded beyond these categories, including content, operations management, and other topics.

This FRN was published on August 17, 2022, and closed on November 15, 2022, giving 90 days for the public to respond.

This report documents how the Census Bureau reviewed and considered the FRN comments and informs interested parties on how the Census Bureau intends to enhance its strategies to improve the way people self-respond during the 2030 Census.
