We tabulate housing tenure counts (i.e., owning, renting) and urban/rural population counts from the most recent decennial census. We use them to create predictors for the proportion of housing units that are resident owned and the proportion of housing units that are rural. Starting with 2010 SAHIE, we use Census 2010 data for these counts; for 2009 SAHIE and prior, we used Census 2000 data.
Starting with 2010 SAHIE, the following three predictors are created from five-year American Community Survey (ACS): educational-attainment estimates, citizenship-status estimates, income-to-poverty ratio (IPR) estimates. For 2009 SAHIE and prior, these three predictors were created from the Census 2000 long-form sample. See the bottom of Data Inputs: American Community Survey for more information.
The first five-year ACS estimates of health insurance coverage were released in December of 2013. Note the Census 2000 long-form sample did not contain information about health insurance coverage.
