2014 Panel Wave 1: RREL Miscoding

Wave 1 data contain an issue in which several types of relationships between household members were miscoded. It is possible to follow parent and spouse pointers to establish these relationships, but the RREL values do not reflect the correct relationship.

Wave 1 RRELs miscoded:

• 6,066 person-months in which a grandparent/grandchild relationship was omitted in the RRELs (.54 percent of sample).

• 1,766 person months incorrectly captured parent/child-in-law relationships (.16 percent of sample).

• 1,355 person-months failed to show sibling-in-law relationships (.12 percent of sample).
