This user note details an update to a hot deck fix for the Food Security content in 2023 SIPP. It also details newly identified and ongoing allocation matrix issues.
For 2023 SIPP data, adjustments were made to the edit specification to ensure that cases with missing data received hot deck allocation values. These adjustments were incorrectly specified, resulting in only individuals with high levels of food insecurity being selected to contribute values to the hot deck matrix. Therefore, respondents with missing data were allocated higher than expected rates of food insecurity.
For 2024 SIPP data, corrections were made to our edit specifications to ensure all respondents were included as donors in our allocation matrices. All respondents without missing data for the Food Security questions are now correctly donating values to the allocation matrices, rather than just respondents with high levels of food insecurity.
Users should be cautious when using allocated values prior to 2024.
