The guidance below provides information about some data products and surveys that cover topics related to commuting.
The American Community Survey (ACS) is the premier source for detailed population and housing information about our nation. The ACS asks questions about where people work, how they get there, when they leave home, and how long their commute takes them. For more information see Why We Ask.
The SIPP is nationally representative longitudinal survey that provides comprehensive information on the dynamics of income, employment, household composition, and government program participation. SIPP is a source of data for workers’ place of work, means of transportation to work, home-based work, minutes to work, miles to work, and commuting and work expenses.
