Adaptive Design

Adaptive survey design is data-driven tailoring of surveys in order to increase the quality of our data, increase efficiencies, and reduce costs. The data used to tailor a survey can include information we already have about the survey, such as response rates on earlier surveys, or real-time information about the performance of the survey in the field as it is conducted. An example of adaptive survey design would be changing the way we contact a respondent during a survey if our contact attempts are not successful. CODS works with Census Bureau survey directors and staff to research adaptive survey design techniques and provide survey staff with different data collection strategies to increase our data quality and reduce costs.
