County Business Patterns: 2018
County Business Patterns (CBP) datasets are subsets of CBP data in comma-separated value (CSV) format for downloading. This series includes the number of establishments, employment during the week of March 12, first quarter payroll, and annual payroll. Corresponding record layouts and reference files are available.
The Census Bureau has reviewed this data product for unauthorized disclosure of confidential information and has approved the disclosure avoidance practices applied. (Approval ID: CBDRB-FY20-261).
Datasets
Beginning with reference year 2017, a cell is only published if it contains three or more establishments. In all other cases, the cell is not included in the release (i.e., it is dropped from publication). In prior years, payroll values for cells with fewer than three establishments would have been suppressed and an employment size range (EMPFLAG) would have been provided; however, the number of establishments would have been published. This EMPFLAG was also included to denote the employment size range for data withheld to avoid disclosure or withheld because data did not meet publication standards. The use of the EMPFLAG was discontinued beginning in reference year 2018 and a noisy employment cell value is provided.
