In the AHS Table Creator, the Census Division variable includes data for all 9 divisions. In the microdata/Public Use File (PUF), the variable is DIVISION. Unlike the tables, the South Atlantic and East South Central divisions are combined on the PUF, as well as the Mountain and Pacific divisions, in order to satisfy Census Bureau confidentiality requirements.
Per the AHS Codebook, the variable DIVISION is available for survey years 2011-2023. In the AHS Table Creator, the Census Division column variable includes data for all 9 divisions for all available years. All 9 divisions are also available on the National PUF for 2015 and later. In the 2011-2013 PUFs, however, the South Atlantic and East South Central divisions are combined, as well as the Mountain and Pacific divisions, in order to satisfy Census Bureau confidentiality requirements. Note that the DIVISION variable is not available at the metropolitan area level for disclosure reasons.
