Where do I find information on the number of people in my area surveyed by the American Community Survey (ACS)?

Information on sample size, response rate, coverage rates, and item allocation rates is available on the American Community Survey’s (ACS) Sample Size and Data Quality page for the nation, states, and Puerto Rico.

Information on the number of interviews for many detailed geographic areas are available:

  • 2005 - 2018 in Tables B00001: Unweighted Sample Count of the Population and B00002: Unweighted Sample Housing Units (discontinued with data year 2019).
  • 2019 – present in Tables B98001: Unweighted Housing Unit Sample and B98003: Unweighted Total Population Sample at the nation, state, county, and place levels.

Table B98001 began with the 2017 ACS release and contains quality measures. Beginning with the 2019 ACS release, Table B98001 also now includes the unweighted interview count tables previously seen in Table B00001. Learn more through User Note 2020-05.
