Why don't I see an American Community Survey (ACS) Selected Population Profile (SPP) table for a specific group in my city or county?

There are two thresholds that must be met for a Selected Population Profile (SPP) to be available.

First, the total population size of the geographic area of interest must be at least 500,000. Prior to 2007, ACS SPPs were only produced for geographic areas with a total population of at least 1 million.

Second, the size of the population group of interest must have an estimated population of 65,000 or more.

SPPs are only available for ACS 1-year estimates, and are always labeled “S0201.” SPPs provide summary tables for over hundreds of detailed race, ethnic, ancestry, tribal, and country-of-birth groups. For more information and a direct link to SPPs visit the ACS Data Tables webpage.

However, the Census Bureau does release Selected Population Tables and American Indian and Alaska Native Tables from ACS 5-year estimates. These data are typically released every five years and contain the greatest level of statistical details for specific population groups and have lower thresholds compared to the SPPs.
