1930 Census: Volume 2. Population, General Report, Statistics by Subjects

The 14 separates listed below are reprints of individual chapters of Volume II, each with title beginning "Fifteenth Census of the United States: 1930. Population."

  1. Urban and rural population, metropolitan districts and center of population.
  2. Color or race, nativity, and parentage.
  3. Sex distribution.
  4. State of birth of native population.
  5. Country of birth of foreign-born.
  6. Country of origin of foreign white stock.
  7. Mother tongue of foreign-born white population.
  8. Citizenship of foreign-born.
  9. Year of immigration of foreign-born.
  10. Age distribution.
  11. Marital condition.
  12. School Attendance.
  13. Illiteracy.
  14. Inability to speak English.


Each chapter consists of an introduction and analysis, and a section of principal tables. In addition to the chapters listed above as reprints, Volume II includes two appendixes: A. Form of schedule for enumeration of population, and B. Instructions to enumerators.


A Note on Language

Census statistics date back to 1790 and reflect the growth and change of the United States. Past census reports contain some terms that today’s readers may consider obsolete and inappropriate. As part of our goal to be open and transparent with the public, we are improving access to all Census Bureau original publications and statistics, which serve as a guide to the nation's history.
