The Census Bureau is proud to announce the first-ever main release of data from the Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES). In July 2025, we shared preliminary statistics in the AIES First Look release, and today’s launch marks the inaugural delivery of the main dataset release from this new program.
This is a significant milestone in the production of economic statistics and marks a major shift from producing siloed data from multiple annual surveys to providing one, comprehensive picture of the U.S. economy.
For the first time, data users can simultaneously view annual revenue estimates across various sectors of the economy from a single source, accompanied by annual payroll, first-quarter payroll, and employment data. AIES data are available at the national, regional and divisional levels, with state-level estimates available for select sectors. Previously, revenue estimates at this level of geographic detail were available only through the Economic Census, conducted once every five years.
When we introduced the AIES last year, we emphasized how this new survey would reduce reporting burden by consolidating seven separate programs into one. That efficiency remains a key benefit for respondents and provides even greater value to data users.
Economists, policymakers, business leaders, and researchers can explore the economy with a level of detail that was previously out of reach. A company seeking insight into its industry across states or a policymaker evaluating regional trends can now draw on these new, extensive annual statistics to make informed decisions. Organizations that have utilized the Economic Census for foundational benchmarks may consider using the AIES to obtain timelier estimates more closely aligned with current economic conditions. Presenting this information within a unified framework not only improves consistency but also opens new doors for analyzing how industries are performing both nationally and at lower geographic levels.
The launch of the full AIES dataset represents a turning point in how we deliver business statistics. By combining breadth of coverage with new geographic details, the AIES provides insights that will inform decisions across the public and private sectors. As the survey evolves, users can anticipate information on emerging industries and trends, while work continues to enhance the depth and detail of future releases.
We are providing several ways for users to access AIES data. Whereas data from many of the surveys now replaced by the AIES were often available through a single format, users can now choose the format that best suits their needs from the following dissemination methods:
All these formats are available on the AIES Data website.
AIES data can also be viewed in engaging visualizations like the Economic Snapshots by Industry and Geography.
The release of the full AIES dataset is more than just a milestone for the Census Bureau — it’s a new way for everyone to better understand the U.S. economy. With easier access, richer detail, and a streamlined approach, the AIES makes it simpler for businesses, policymakers, researchers and the public to find the information they need.
We encourage you to explore these data, try out the new tools, provide feedback, and discover how the AIES can offer fresh insights into the nation’s economic story.
