The U.S. Census Bureau released the Business Dynamics Statistics of Human Capital (BDS-HC) and Business Dynamics Statistics of Patenting Firms (BDS-PF) experimental data products today.
The BDS-HC are the first public-use statistics that use W-2 filings to combine longitudinal business data with population-level worker demographic data to classify firms based on the characteristics of their workers. These data describe the relationship between business dynamics and workforce composition for nearly all non-farm employer businesses in the United States. The annual statistics are available for 2006-2022.
The BDS-PF are a component of a broader initiative aimed at improving the measurement of the business dynamics of innovative firms in the United States. BDS-PF provides the stock and flow of firms, establishments, and employment for firms with and without a recent patent grant. The annual statistics are available for 1978-2022.
