Geographic Codes

The Census Bureau creates and maintains geographic codes for many statistical geographic areas that are not covered by FIPS codes and GNIS codes. These geographic areas include census divisions, census regions, census tracts, block groups, census blocks and urban areas.

Class Codes and Definitions

The class (CLASSFP) code defines the current class of a geographic entity.
Legal/Statistical Area Description Codes and Definitions

The legal/statistical area description (LSAD) codes describe the particular typology for each geographic entity.
Functional Status Codes and Definitions

The functional status (FUNCSTAT) code defines the current functional status of a geographic entity.
Route Type Codes and Definitions

These codes are found in the TIGER/Line products and are used to describe the types of roads.
ANSI and FIPS Codes

ANSI codes are standardized numeric or alphabetic codes issued by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to ensure uniform identification.
MAF/TIGER Feature Class Code Definitions

The MAF/TIGER Feature Class Code (MTFCC) is a 5-digit code assigned by the Census Bureau intended to classify and describe geographic objects or features.
