Columns 1-2 United States Postal Service State Abbreviation
Columns 3-4 State Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) code
Columns 5-7 FIPS county code
Columns 8-13 Census Tract Number
Columns 14-22 Total Population (2000)
Columns 23-31 Total Housing Units (2000)
Columns 32-45 Land Area (square meters) - Created for statistical purposes only.
Columns 46-59 Water Area(square meters) - Created for statistical purposes only.
Columns 60-73 Land Area (square miles) - Created for statistical purposes only.

The counties file contains data for primary legal divisions or statistically equivalent entities in the 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico as of Census 2000. The file is tab-delimited text, one line per record. There are 3,219 records. Some records contain special characters.
