The annual population and housing unit estimates are released on a flow basis throughout the year, beginning with the national and state total estimates release in December and ending with the release of population estimates for the nation, states, and counties by demographic characteristics during the following summer.
The latest full vintage available is the Vintage 2021 estimates series. This series is developed from a base that incorporates the 2020 Census, Vintage 2020 estimates, and 2020 Demographic Analysis estimates. For population estimates methodology statements, see https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/popest/technical-documentation/methodology.html.
The 2010 to 2020 Intercensal Estimates will become the official estimates for the 2010-2020 decade and are currently scheduled to become available in 2023 (specific timeline for release forthcoming). They are produced by modifying the Vintage 2020 estimates to account for differences between these estimates and the results of the 2020 Census. The result is a consistent time series from the 2010 Census to the 2020 Census. For more information on the Intercensal Estimates, please see the 2000-2010 Methodology Statement.

This data release was limited to total population and did not include the components of change. This change to the schedule and product availability only affected Vintage 2022.
