For 2023 SIPP, the Food Security edit specification was corrected to ensure that cases would be allocated via hot-deck. This correction revealed that the logic previously in place to assign values to the hot-deck from respondents with valid data that was not being used due to errors in pathing was also specified incorrectly. The result of this error is a higher-than-expected rate of food insecurity for any cases that received a value from hot-deck allocation in the 2023 SIPP data.
Given these issues, data users should exclude hot-deck cases from 2023 SIPP food insecurity estimates.
