Does the American Housing Survey (AHS) collect data on how often people move (length of time of homeownership)?

The AHS collects data on when persons moved into a housing unit (variable HHMOVE in the Public Use File), and it collects data on recent movers. Because the AHS is a longitudinal survey, you can link succeeding survey datasets and track when households move into and out of units. However, a better source of data on migration is the American Community Survey. See also the Migration/Geographic Mobility page on the Census Bureau website.
