Introduction
The use of a self-adminstered questionnare presupposes the ability of respondents to read and comprehend the survey instrument. The choice of a self-administered mode may be constrained by factors not directly related to data quality. For example, cost may dictate the necessity of a mail survey. In addition, identifying respondents who have poor literacy skills within a large sample may be impossible, since reading difficulties can occur in all segments of the population.
