As we prepare to ring in 2025, the U.S. Census Bureau is using its U.S. and World Population Clock – which simulates real-time growth of the United States and world populations – to project the U.S. and world populations on New Year’s Day.
Every December, the Census Bureau releases annual population estimates for the nation, states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico as of July 1. The Vintage 2024 population estimates cover the period from April 1, 2020, to July 1, 2024. We calculate the annual percent change for each state and round it to one decimal place.
