Prior to the 2020 survey year, surveys beginning with 'SA-42A' were for firms asked to report for their entire company.  Surveys beginning with 'SA-42' were for firms asked to report for a specific Employer Identification Number (EIN).  Starting with the 2020 survey year, all firms were asked to report for their entire company and received surveys beginning with 'SA-42A.'

Additionally, the surveys were separated by type of wholesale:

1. merchant wholesalers, excluding manufacturers’ sales branches and offices;
2. manufacturers' sales branches and offices (MSBO); and
3. agents, brokers, and electronic markets (AGBR).
