In the United States, our federal statistical system is decentralized, spanning 127 agencies spread across the government, all of which are engaged in collecting data and producing statistics. The Census Bureau and 13 other agencies have statistical work as their principal mission and make up the Interagency Council for Statistical Policy.
Other trusted sources include non-statistical agencies of the federal government and organizations such as the American Red Cross.

NAICS Site
The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is the standard used by Federal statistical agencies in classifying business establishments.
NAPCS Site
NAPCS is a comprehensive, market- or demand-based, hierarchical classification system for products (goods and services) that is not industry-of-origin based.
Annual Retail Trade Survey (ARTS)
The Annual Retail Trade Survey (ARTS) produces industry-level estimates of sales, expenses, and other items for the retail sector in the U.S. each year.
Annual Survey of Manufactures (ASM)
To provide key intercensal measures of manufacturing activity, products, and location for public and private sector use.
Annual Wholesale Trade Survey (AWTS)
AWTS is conducted every year to provide detailed industry measures of sales, inventories, operational expenses and purchases for wholesale trade activities.
Census of Governments
Identifies the scope and nature of the nation's state and local government sector including public finance and public employment and classifications.
Commodity Flow Survey (CFS)
CFS is a joint project of Census and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics producing data on the movement of goods in the United States.
County Business Patterns (CBP)
Provides subnational economic data by industry, including the number of establishments, employment, first quarter payroll, and annual payroll.
Decennial Census of Population and Housing
The U.S. census counts every resident in the United States. It is mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution and takes place every 10 years.
Enterprise Statistics Program (ESP)
Provide periodic and comprehensive company-wide data, including company support organizations and selected financial activities.
Nonemployer Statistics
An annual series that provides subnational economic data for businesses that have no paid employees and are subject to federal income tax.
Service Annual Survey (SAS)
Provides estimates of revenue and other measures for most traditional service industries.
Statistics of U.S. Businesses (SUSB)
Provides detailed annual data for U.S. business establishments by geography, industry, and enterprise size.
Survey of Business Owners and Self-Employed Persons (SBO)
Provides estimates on selected economic and demographic characteristics for businesses & business owners by sex, ethnicity, race, and veteran status.
