2026 Census Test

The 2026 Census Test is the U.S. Census Bureau's first opportunity to try out new tools and methods in select locations around the United States.
Advance Monthly Sales for Retail and Food Services (MARTS)

Provides an early indication of sales of retail and food service companies.
American Community Survey (ACS)

The American Community Survey is the premier source for information about America's changing population, housing and workforce.
American Housing Survey (AHS)

The AHS is sponsored by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.
American Time Use Survey (ATUS)

The ATUS measures the amount of time people spend doing various activities, such as paid work, childcare, volunteering, and socializing.
Annual Business Survey (ABS) Program

Provides annual data on select economic and demographic characteristics of employer businesses, including annual R&D estimates.
Annual Integrated Economic Survey (AIES)

The AIES is a re-engineered survey designed to integrate and replace seven existing annual business surveys into a streamlined single survey instrument.
Annual Survey of Public Employment & Payroll (ASPEP)

Provides state and local government data on full-time and part-time employment, full-time equivalent employment, and payroll statistics.
Annual Survey of Public Pensions (ASPP)

The Survey of Public Pensions provides revenues, expenditures, financial assets, and membership information for the defined benefit public pensions.
Annual Survey of School System Finances

Provides statistics about the finances of elementary and secondary public school systems.
Annual Survey of State Government Finances (ASFIN)

State Government Finances provides a comprehensive summary of annual survey findings for state governments.
Annual Survey of State Government Tax Collections (STC)

The STC provides a summary of taxes collected by state for 5 broad tax categories and up to 25 tax subcategories.
Annual Survey of State and Local Government Finances (ALFIN)

Statistics on revenue, expenditure, debt, and assets (cash and security holdings) for governments.
Boundary and Annexation Survey (BAS)

The Census Bureau conducts the BAS annually to collect information about selected legally defined geographic areas.
Building Permits Survey (BPS)

The purpose of the Building Permits Survey is to provide national, state, and local statistics on new privately-owned residential construction.
Business Dynamics Statistics (BDS)

Tabulations of establishment openings/closings, firm startups/shutdowns, and job creation/destruction, with unique information on firm age and firm size.
Business Enterprise Research and Development Survey (BERD)

Provides detailed statistics on global and domestic R&D expenses of U.S. based companies and statistics on R&D workforce, IP and technology transfer activities.
Business Formation Statistics (BFS)

Tabulations on business applications and formations in the U.S. at quarterly frequency, including projections for recent and future quarters.
Business Trends and Outlook Survey (BTOS)

Provides insights with timely, high frequency data across all nonfarm sectors of the economy.
Business and Professional Classification Survey

Obtains information necessary to identify and classify businesses to update the samples for current business surveys and the Economic Census.
Census Bureau Research Panel

The Census Bureau Research Panel is a survey used to test and evaluate questions.
Census of Governments (CoG)

Identifies the scope and nature of the nation's state and local government sector including public finance and public employment and classifications.
Census of Juveniles in Resident Placement (CJRP)

Collects detailed information on youth residing in detention, correctional, and other shelter facilities.
Commodity Flow Survey (CFS)

CFS is a joint project of Census and the Bureau of Transportation Statistics producing data on the movement of goods in the United States.

The Census Bureau’s CRE provide an easily understood metric for how socially vulnerable every neighborhood in the United States is to the impacts of disasters.
Consumer Expenditure Survey (CE)

Provides data on expenditures, income, and demographic characteristics of consumers in the United States.
County Business Patterns (CBP)

Provides subnational economic data by industry, including the number of establishments, employment, first quarter payroll, and annual payroll.
Criminal Justice Administrative Records System (CJARS)

Data infrastructure for the next generation of statistics and research on the criminal justice system and the population that interacts with it.
Current Population Survey (CPS)

The CPS is a monthly survey sponsored by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.
Decennial Census of Population and Housing

The U.S. census counts every resident in the United States. It is mandated by Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution and takes place every 10 years.
Economic Census

The Economic Census is the official five-year measure of American businesses providing comprehensive statistics at the national, state, and local levels. Follow the 2022 Economic Census release schedule for additional information.
Education Demographic and Geographic Estimates (EDGE) Program

Uses spatial data to create geographic locale indicators, school point locations, school district boundaries, and other data to support spatial analysis.
Enhancing Health Data (EHealth) Program

Research program that identifies existing gaps in federal statistics which can be filled by enhancing health records with unique Census Bureau data assets.
Household Trends and Outlook Pulse Survey (HTOPS)

The Household Trends and Outlook Pulse Survey (HTOPS) panel collects information on topics such as food and nutrition, transportation, employment, and education
Housing Vacancies and Homeownership (CPS/HVS)

Provides current information on the rental and homeowner vacancy rates, and characteristics of units available for occupancy.
International Trade Program

The official U.S. import and export statistics reflect both government and nongovernment shipments of merchandise between foreign countries and the U.S.
