2019-2023 ACS 5-year PUMS Files and Documentation Released January 23

2019-2023 ACS 5-year Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) files are now available in data.census.gov and the FTP site. 

Visit our Microdata section of the website to find PUMS data, and resources like the PUMS Handbook, How-to Use instructions, FAQs and documentation. The PUMS documentation includes the Accuracy of the PUMS, PUMS Estimates for User Verification, Subjects in the PUMS, and Data Dictionary. Code Lists have also been posted to help users with the release of the 2019-2023 ACS 5-year PUMS files. 

2019-2023 ACS Variance Replicate Estimates Tables and Documentation Released January 23

2019-2023 ACS Variance Replicate Estimates Tables are now available, along with supporting documentation, through the Variance Replicate Estimates Tables data page as well as the FTP site. These tables allow advanced data users to calculate margins of error when collapsing data within a table or across geographies. 

2019-2023 ACS 5-Year Estimates Released December 12

2019-2023 ACS 5-year estimates are available in data.census.gov, the API, and the summary file.

The 2019-2023 ACS 5-year Press Kit includes a wide range of resources, including the press release, and access to background materials for this release.

2019-2023 ACS 5-year estimates are based on data collected from January 1, 2019 through December 31, 2023.

2019-2023 ACS 5-year estimates are available for geographic areas down to the census tract level for all data tables and block group level for select Detailed Tables.

Select Documentation Released

Supporting documentation has been released to provide data users with a basic explanation of the sample design, estimation methodology, and accuracy of the data.

2019-2023 ACS 5-Year Narrative Profiles Available

2019-2023 ACS 5-year Narrative Profiles are available for states, counties, places, metropolitan/micropolitan statistical areas, county subdivisions, ZIP Code Tabulation Areas, American Indian Area/Alaska Native Area/Hawaiian Home Lands and census tracts. Narrative Profiles summarize many topics using nontechnical text and graphs. Other profiles, such as Data Profiles and Comparison Profiles, are available in data.census.gov.

The new ACS Data Release Rules brief describes the ACS data products released each year and the rules that are applied to determine whether ACS-tabulated data products and estimates will be published.

New ACS Data Products Available for the 119th Congress

The Census Bureau released new social, economic, housing and demographic statistics for the 119th Congress. The four Data Profiles are available for all 435 congressional districts in the Census Bureau’s main data dissemination tool, data.census.gov, and the Application Programming Interface. The My Congressional District data tool was also updated for the 119th Congress. These data products were produced from the 2023 ACS 1-year estimates. The full suite of tables using the 119th congressional districts will be available in the 2024 ACS 1-year release, scheduled for fall 2025. 

2023 ACS 1-Year Supplemental Estimates and Documentation Released October 17

2023 ACS 1-year Supplemental Estimates are available in data.census.gov and the API.

2023 ACS 1-year Supplemental Estimates are based on data collected from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023, and they are available for geographic areas with populations of 20,000 or more.

Supporting documentation such as the PUMS User Guide, Accuracy of the PUMS, and PUMS Estimates for User Verification have been released to help users with this release.

2023 ACS 1-Year Estimates Released September 12

2023 ACS 1-year estimates are based on data collected from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023.

2023 ACS 1-year estimates are available in data.census.gov and the API. The Census Bureau recommends using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge when accessing data.census.gov. Learn more about data.census.gov resources, including how-to materials, video tutorials, and more.

2023 ACS 1-year estimates are available for geographic areas with populations of 65,000 or more.

2023 ACS 1-Year Table Shells and Table List

Table shells for the 2023 ACS 1-year tables and profiles are available on the FTP site. The 2023 ACS Table List is also available. It includes information, such as table IDs, titles, and universes, as well as 1-year/5-year availability, in one spreadsheet.

Release Schedule

The 2023 American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates are scheduled to be released on September 12, 2024.  These data will be available for the nation, all states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, every congressional district, every metropolitan area, and all counties and places with populations of 65,000 or more.

The 2023 ACS 1-year Public Use Microdata Sample (PUMS) files and 2023 ACS 1-year Supplemental Estimates are scheduled to be released on October 17, 2024.  For more information on the release schedule, visit 2023 ACS Release Schedule.
